The Challenge: A Decade of Uniforms
Eurostar, the high-speed rail service, is defined by its commitment to seamless travel and a unified brand identity. In 2025, Eurostar introduced a new staff uniform to bring its updated brand promise to life and create consistency across its international teams. This change created a significant logistical challenge: the responsible disposal of a decade’s worth of old uniforms. Simply discarding the garments was not an option. Eurostar needed an ethical, environmentally responsible solution that ensured branded clothing did not enter landfill.
The Solution: A Traceable Circular System with SecureBrand®
Eurostar partnered with Avena Group to adopt the SecureBrand® solution, for their UK‑based staff uniforms. Uniforms were collected from a single central UK location by Avena and transported to one of their accredited secure facilities for industrial shredding, ensuring complete and irreversible destruction. The processed uniforms were either remanufactured or repurposed into further‑life products, supporting Eurostar’s sustainability goals with full traceability throughout.
The Result: Big Volumes, Bigger Impact
In the UK alone, Eurostar has successfully diverted more than 450 sacks of uniforms from landfill. This amounted to approximately 3,600kg of uniforms and avoided an estimated 1,765kg of CO2e emissions. As a result, Eurostar now has a secure and sustainable solution in place for the ongoing management of end‑of‑life uniforms.
Testimonial: A Partner That Delivered
“With a mammoth project like this one, I couldn’t be happier working with Avena, who created a stress free environment to collect tons of uniforms.” – Marion Baudet, Customer Experience Delivery Manager at Eurostar.
