The Challenge: Turning Garment Waste into Opportunity
As part of its ambitious MicronGreen Strategy for 2025, Micronclean set a target to reduce overall waste by 5%. A major hurdle was the secure and sustainable disposal of over 180,000 garments annually from its Skegness and Louth sites. The challenge wasn’t just about volume—it was about finding a solution that aligned with environmental goals while maintaining operational integrity and protecting brand reputation.
The Solution: SecureBrand® Powers Circular Innovation
To meet this challenge, Micronclean partnered with Avena Group to implement a secure textile repurposing programme. Using Avena’s SecureBrand® solution, garments are collected, shredded, and repurposed into insulation materials, ensuring that end-of-life textiles continue to deliver value.
In addition, Micronclean is rolling out a closed-loop uniform system, enabling garments to be returned and reused internally. This extends the lifecycle of workwear and strengthens the company’s commitment to circularity.
The Result: Garments Diverted from Landfill
This initiative marks a significant milestone in Micronclean’s sustainability journey. By preventing over 180,000 garments annually from entering landfill, the company is making measurable progress toward its Circular Economy goals.
The partnership with Avena not only supports long-term resource efficiency but also reinforces Micronclean’s position as a leader in sustainable textile management.
Testimonial: Circularity in Action
“Textile repurposing is a key deliverable under our Circular Economy pillar to securely dispose of our garments. Working with Avena on this initiative ensures our textiles stay in use for as long as possible through reuse and repurposing.” – Sophie Harris, QSHE & HR Director, Micronclean
