Confidential and Secure Waste Disposal & Shredding Services in and around Exeter

If you store, handle or use personal data, under General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) you are legally obliged to protect that data both online and in physical data storage material such as flash drives, disks, and printed documents.

In certain sectors this is particularly important as the consequences of a data breach could be severe not only for the persons to whom the data belongs but also to the organisations in possession of the data: education, healthcare, legal and financial services to name just a few.

As the county town of Devon and a major legal services centre for the South West, demand in Exeter is high for confidential data destruction. Document shredding services company Avena Group offers a comprehensive service designed to match the needs of every business and organisation.

Data shredding with peace of mind

Our safe, traceable confidential waste destruction services fully meet BSEN:15713-2009 – the code of practice used by the confidential data destruction services industry.

Off-site shredding services

Securall® consoles for the office

Our off-site shredding service fully protects the security of your data while on your premises, in transit and during the destruction process.

Our secure, lockable Securall® consoles blend unobtrusively into the office environment and make secure disposal of redundant paperwork as easy as putting it into a wastepaper bin, but impossible to retrieve.

When the console is ready to be emptied, you just scan a QR code on the console and this alerts us that a collection is required.

A member of our Customer Service Representatives (CSR) will empty the console, placing the contents into a slam-lock transit container for safe transfer back to our shredding depot.

RemoteShred® for working from home

With many employees working from home because of the coronavirus pandemic, companies have been forced to adapt their data protection procedures. And while this may be a temporary arrangement for some companies, others have already decided that their post-pandemic operations are likely to involve a combination of office-based and remote working.

RemoteShred is our revolutionary, patent-pending system that meets this new demand. A single-use cardboard console is delivered to each remote worker for them to dispose of confidential waste.

When the console is full, the user secures it with a tamper-evident tape seal and scans a QR code to request a collection by one of our CSRs.

On-site shredding services

For customers wanting the added assurance of seeing the shredding process being carried out, we offer a mobile, on-site shredding service.

All confidential waste is carried from a secure area within the customer’s building to our mobile shredding unit, either by our CSRs or by the customer’s own personnel (if requested) and destroyed immediately on site.

The customer can witness the entire process and will be handed a certificate of destruction as soon as it is complete.

Textile destruction and recycling

Textiles also frequently require secure destruction, either before or after they have been made into garments or other goods and before or after they have been used or worn.

  • Patterned textiles that are easily associated with specific brands or fashion collections may need to be destroyed if they show manufacturing flaws or are end of season surplus, to protect the value of the brand.
  • Some surplus or used/worn uniforms used by emergency and security services are destroyed to prevent them from being used for impersonation – a serious crime that can potentially put members of the public at risk and allow unauthorised persons to gain access to controlled areas.

While this may seem unjustifiably wasteful use of fabrics and clothing that could be reused, as an ISO 14001 certified company we ensure environmentally friendly use of the post-destruction fibres in products such as acoustic office screens, upholstery and so on, extending the material’s useful life and preventing increased landfill.

IT and other office equipment

Fast-paced technological development is constantly rendering high-tech electronic equipment obsolete, but such products often contain materials that can either be recycled to reduce the unsustainable demand for natural resources such as minerals or need special handling to prevent environmental contamination.

This is controlled by the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) regulations, introduced to reduce the volume of redundant electrical and electronic equipment going to landfills and to maximise its potential for recyclability.

In addition to confidential waste destruction, we offer WEEE-compliant disposal and recycling of all electrical and electronic office equipment, including:

  • Computers and laptops
  • Laser and inkjet printers
  • Servers
  • Network switches, hubs, routers and firewalls
  • Other miscellaneous IT equipment

If this equipment features any data storage devices such as computer hard drives, we also ensure these are destroyed in line with GDPR requirements.

Assured Quality service

We primarily work for clients in the education, finance, healthcare and legal sectors, where it is essential we can demonstrate our competence and credibility.

  • Our Customer Service Representatives are all BS7858 security vetted and DBS checked for working in locations where children and vulnerable adults might be present.
  • We follow the BSEN:15713-2009 Code of Practice to ensure your confidential waste is destroyed following GDPR requirements
  • Our ISO 9001 certification guarantees you receive consistent service quality and security procedures are adhered to at all times
  • We are ISO 14001 registered to demonstrate our commitment to the environment through effective waste management
  • Our ISO 45001 certification covers all aspects of occupational health and safety to provide a safe working environment for our personnel and anyone within our working space.
